The George Washington of Cuba hand-wrote this important document. Entitled "The Country " (La Patria), he talks of "my true feeling" about Cuba. Passion and patriotism ring clear as he speaks of Cuba as a maternal, mother figure. He drives to be free of Spain and attacks them because "they have twisted my ideas." Wanting "victory" (Revolution), he ends with "In reality, who triumphs at the end is the country." The 12.5x8.5" page is hand-written on both sides and unsigned. Overall VG, the ink is bright, dark and clear, just some soiling to the paper and hori-zontal fold in center. Marti is strongly revered by both Marxist and anti-Marxist Cubans to this day. He is Cuba's most respected historical figure and the father of the revolution against Spain. This is one of only two Marti documents we have ever seen sold.
