Not many people know it, but during the depression years, a Slovakian baseball league formed on the sandlots of Ohio, and this collection comes from one of its players: George Byak who suited up for the Struthers Slovaks from 1927-29, and again in 1931 and 1934. The lefty pitcher owned a lifetime .424 batting average and was once a teammate of the Brooklyn Dodgers' Babe Phelps and the Senators' Jake Powell. This lot features jersey pants, hats (2) umpire shirt, socks, batting trophy and impeccably detailed, 84-page league directory with stats, rosters, bio pages and vintage ads. A valuable treasure for dyed-in-the-wool baseball historians and lovers of Americana in general.
