Germany is not just known for its flavorful (and strong) lager; it also has created some of the most beautiful baseball figurines in the world. These two were imported to the U.S. from Heubach, the finest maker of German porcelain in the world. Heubach rests right on the base of the Swabian Alps in Germany. The two baseball players were created circa 1890 and are called "bisque" (fired without glaze) figurines. The player in the light blue pinstripe uniform is holding a ball in his right hand, while the player in red is holding a bat. Both stand 12.5" high, and each rest on a base a little over 3" in diameter. Both also have had some restoration and display classic 19th century poses. The trademark on the inside of each base is stamped with "Gesetzilch Geschuetzt" (Gesetzilch protected). Red figurine is stamped with a "22" on the inside of the base, and the blue one is stamped with a "30." Both in EX+ condition. Absolutely "wonderschon", or wondeful!
