Not only is this one of the few 19th century baseball posters known to exist, it is the first one we have ever seen of this style. This magnificent paper lithograph measures an outstanding 16x28” and features a rough and ready youngster pitching a baseball of the period. Spectacular graphics of this type and quality are rarely seen, and only from companies of this weight, from this era, and with classic products such as tobacco. Allen & Ginter of Richmond, Virgina produced the first nationally disseminated baseball card set in 1887 when the sport, as well as photography, was blossoming nationwide. This lithograph is in investment grade condition; the only defects being some faint creases in the corners and a small black mark above the ball. One for the ages.
