One of the earliest comic strip characters, the Yellow Kid was drawn by artist Richard F. Outcault, who also created the popular Buster Brown. This card, which is 2" tall and less than an inch wide, is so exceedingly rare that we have never seen it before. Presumably, it was included in a pack of gum and shows the bald character with the message: "HULLY GEE DIS IS DE GUM DAT ME AND DE PRINCE CHEWS SEE!" scrawled across his yellow nightshirt. It is a rough cut and is believed to date back to the 1890s. Yellow Kid was a mainstay in Outcault's popular "Hogan's Alley" strip.
