A phenomenal ball player cut down in his prime, Thurman Munson was one of the most memorable players in the sport. The first captain of the New York Yankees since Lou Gehrig, Munson was a seven-time All Star, a three-time Gold Glove Award-winning catcher, and a career .292 hitter. His 1979 death in a plane crash stands as a tragic mark on the history of baseball. This semi-pro league Regent ball, in outstanding condition, features a personalized autograph in blue pen, reading "To Dorothea, Best Wishes. Thurman Munson, (Xmas 1978)." Signed only eight months before his death, this ball is an invaluable reminder of one of baseball's true greats. LOA included.
