The “Galveston Giant,” Jack Johnson, was the first black Heavyweight Champ in boxing history, and it could be argued the most talented boxer of his generation. This 8 x 10" photo, depicting Johnson in an old-fashioned boxing pose on a blank background, shows the illustrious boxer ready to clobber any oncomer. In the lower left, a slightly smudged inscription in blue ink reads, “To Earl with best wishes From Jack Johnson,” and opposite that, there is a more ornate signature in black ink reading simply, “Jack Johnson.” The image is slightly faded at the bottom, but overall presents nicely, with good contrast and lighting.
