A pioneering player whose devastating twenty-six consecutive year career has never been matched, Cap Anson’s presentational bat is one of the most exciting lots we’re offering in this auction. Still one of the most prized Chicago players to ever step onto the field, Anson was presented this magnificent trophy bat for his many contributions to the game as one of its most prominent early players, only four months after his retirement from the Chicago Colts. The bat is hollow and made of beautiful sterling silver with decadent designs engraved on its barrel and grip. The inscription on the barrel reads “ Presented to Adrian C. Anson by the Students of Notre Dame University as a testimony of their pride in him as one of the earliest and greatest athletes of their Alma Mater, February 22nd, 1898”. This is one of the best trophies to surface in many years and has a great pedigree in the Anson family. With this lot is a picture of the bat being displayed in Chicago in the 1950’s and another vintage (1950's) photo of the bat along with one of Cap's game used bats. The overall condition is EX with a few dings that were repaired professionally. A stunning piece of baseball history and a great tribute to the skilled player. Comes directly from the Anson family.
