Original 6 x 8'' photograph on 10 x 12'' mount of a team that, at first glance, would appear to be just a generic late 19th century squad. However, on closer inspection, we notice that the man seated third from the left in the first row is wearing a uniform identical to that worn by member of the St Louis Browns in the late 1880's. Then when we look even closer we notice that the man wearing the uniform is unquestionably Charles Comiskey, star of the team, owner of the 1919 Black Sox and Baseball Hall of Famer. The reason for his appearance will always be a mystery. Perhaps he had a friend on the team, perhaps he was hired as a "ringer" to appear for the hometown squad. Whatever the reason, we are just glad that a photographer was there to take the shot. There is a light brown circular stain in the upper left hand corner of the image and some chipping to the corners of the mount. Lots of early equipment is visible and the image is very clear. Most likely a one of a kind piece!
