A complicated man and tough competitor, Hugh Casey was a stellar relief pitcher for the Dodgers during the 1940's, as well as a cohort of Ernest Hemingway. Sadly, he took his own life in 1951. Here are three, high quality Hugh Casey wire and news service photos from his time with the Dodgers. Two date from October 1941 reporting on the World Series match-up against the Yanks, including one with catcher Mickey Owen who lost a grip on Casey's final strike and set the Yanks on their way to a game winning rally in game 4. The third photo shows Casey sitting dejectedly in front of his locker following another WS loss (this time in 1947) against the Yankees. All photos are strong NM/MT and measure 6.5 x 8.5" to 7.5 x 10" Brooklyn Dodgers Photos (3)
