An HOFer, he was an All-Star in 1936, 1939-1941, 1943, 1946, 1947 and led the American League in batting average in 1936 (.388) & 1943 (.328). His on base percentage was greater than .400 in nine seasons and in 14 seasons he batted over .300 with a lifetime batting average of .310.
