This is a collection of glass plate negatives (18) from the 1929 Cal Golden Bear football team. They are 4" x 5" in size and in EX condition. Five of them feature Roy Riegels, aka "Wrong Way" Riegels. He was given his nickname for what he did when the Cal football team played Georgia Tech in the 1929 Rose Bowl. Cal's defense forced a Georgia Tech fumble and Cal center Roy Riegels recovered the ball and headed towards the opposing GT end zone for a TD. Unbelievably, before getting there, he turned around and headed in the other direction towards his own end zone. Riegels got to the Cal (his own) one yard line before one of his team mates tackled him. Cal elected to punt on the next play however the punt was blocked for a safety and 2 points for GT which turned out to be the decisive points in the GT 8-7 win.
