Jack Johnson, the first African-American to win the World Heavyweight Title accomplished that feat defeating Tommy Burns in Australia on December 26, 1908. Later defeated Stanley Ketchel and former champion James Jeffries. Presented here is a very scarce signed photograph of Jack Johnson. This is a vintage 7 1/2" x 9 1/2" first generation promotional photograph of Jack Johnson which lists his vital statistics. He was 34 years old and World Heavyweight Champion at the time of the photo. The photograph is twice signed in ink by Jack Johnson. The first inscription reads, "To Joe McDorland A Good Sport With Good Luck From Jack Johnson." The second inscription reads, " Best Wishes To My Friend Harry G. Kingsley From Jack Johnson." Both inscriptions and signatures are in bold fountain pen. There is one small spot in the upper left corner outside of the signatures and image. No creases, rips or tears. Professionally framed and ready to hang. Exceptionally rare, especially in a photograph of this quality and signed as champion.
