John L. Sullivan is recognized as the first World Heavyweight Champion of Boxing. From Roxbury, MA, he was known as the “Boston Strongboy”. This beautifully framed and matted display is 16” x 14” and features a cabinet card featuring the portrait of Sullivan, with the caption “John L. Sullivan, Champion of the World”. Next to it is a handbill for the 1892 production "Honest Hearts and Willing Hands". In between bouts, Sullivan took up acting and toured the world in this stage production playing the character James Daly. Great display of vintage boxing history.
