A close friend of the great James Naismith, Amos Alonzo Stagg is presented here in a small cabinet photo that was a personal possession of Naismith. Stagg was an all-around pioneer of football, coaching at Springfield College, University of Chicago, the College of the Pacific and creating several basic tactics such as the lateral pass. Rendered in Springfield, Mass., the photo is in Very Good condition, measuring 4 1/4"x6 3/4". The bottom of the front of the photo reads "Geo. H. Van Norman 310 Main St., Springfield, Mass." and Stagg's name is written in blue pen on the back.
