Handwritten letter postmarked from Milwaukee to Meyer. Friendly three-pager, "I got an offer from Buck Weaver last week. He wants me to play for him down in Douglass but if I hear from Scobey in time they'll get first chance. I'd like to go back there cause I'd be more used to the country. Well John, if I do go back to Scobey and take a hold of the club I'll expect you to be with me, that is if you haven't made any arrangements for this summer. But say John I'm sure getting the fever already." Pure introspection into the way the banned Sox missed the game and wanted to play whether it was in Chicago or in the backwoods of the "country." Further baseball content talking about their teammates, expecting a child and hoping for another "Jouiner" (Junior, a boy) and talks of his team bowling in the State Tournament. Signed "Hap." EX, 4.75x6.25". Original mailing envelope in his hand. The Chicago Black Sox Barnstorming Letter Collection Collection of letters and telegrams to a gentleman by the name of John Meyers who played for several 1920's baseball teams that barnstormed throughout the country. He majored in the Black Sox. He was friendly with some of those banned players that highlighted his tours. The Black Sox were popular to organizers because they could be had for a good price, drew a crowd with the fascination of what had happened to these fallen champions, and they were damn good ballplayers. The following were pulled from a precious scrapbook emanating from Mr. Meyer and are some of the few letter examples that exist of these rare signatures.
