In his first talkie role, Eric von Stroheim starred in The Great Gabbo with singer/actress Betty Compson. The Ben Hecht script finds von Stroheim increasingly drawn into a closed world consisting of himself and his puppet, with interludes of music and dance - a bizarre blend of Busby Berkeley and an episode from The Twilight Zone. But von Stroheim is magnificent, and it all somehow works. This collection of four 8" x 10" black and white movie stills provides key scenes from the movie, including a classic portrait of von Stroheim, two of von Stroheim and the always alluring Betty Compson, and one of the final denouement between master and puppet. The portrait has a newsprint clip and caption attached to the reverse. Overall condition is EX, with two of the photos showing remains of album material on reverse.
