Famed building at Fifth and Market was demolished by the 1906 earthquake and rebuilt by designer Willis Polk. This building actually housed author Dashiel Hammett who worked at Albert Samuels Jewelry Company (pictured). This is likely from the 1908 Portola that celebrated the rebuilding of the city after the Great Quake. Original paper caption. International Newsreel stamp on verso. Edge wear o/w EX. 8x11”.
