Was there any team bigger than the New York Yankees in the 1940’s, and after a stellar late 30’s wearing pinstripes, Joe DiMaggio personified that image of baseball greatness and American heroism, carrying it through to that next decade. Everyone smoked in the 40’s, and DiMaggio’s likeness upon this Champ lighter display (9 1/2 x 12") certainly helped encourage the (then not-so) dirty habit. Store display (EX-MT) is all colorful cardboard, with an illustration of the center-fielder and the claim, “the Champ is the lighter for you and me.” But it’s the lighters that really lend weight to this point-of-purchase display; all six of these uniquely designed flickers are still in their slots, and cost only a $1 each. Display back still has unused easel.
