On June 2, 1941 Lou Gehrig succumbed to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis at age 37 leaving an emptiness in the hearts of all fans and the game itself. One month later, on July 4th, a special memorial was held at Yankee Stadium where his immortal number "4" was retired forever. Presented is a complete unused ticket from that day. This beautiful ticket frames an image of Gehrig inside four nicely shaped corners on its two-color front. There are some pinholes at each end and top center, in addition to a "VOID" stamping on the upper right, VG. Mounted to a scrapbook page with a vintage 5 x 8" photo of Gehrig from 7/4/39, shortly after delivering his famous farewell speech, that is EX+.
