A truly outstanding 1920's Boston Red Sox sweater, as worn by players on those brisk New England mornings early and late in the season. Very few of these sweaters have survived, and this example has been remarkably well cared for more than eighty years. The red cardigan-style woolen sweater has two pockets, integral belt, a wide collar and "Red Sox" in off-white felt stitched prominently on the left breast. The garment is extremely well made, with original mother-of-pearl buttons, fully stitched buttonholes, and numerous extra touches, and was manufactured by Wright-Ditson, which appears on an inside label. The sweater was designed to be comfortable, attractive and functional on the ballfield, or for casual cocktails afterwards with a flapper on each arm. Size is approximately a men's medium. Other than a few pulled threads here and there, the sweater is in magnificent condition, a solid EX-MT. Absolutely all-original. A quintessential piece for any game-worn aficionado, as well as an absolute treasure for any Red Sox fan.
