How about this awesome baseball cap from Pittsburgh Pirate Willie Stargell, signed and authenticated with a letter by the sportswriter from which it came. The Hall of Famer may have donned this beauty in 1976, and clearly signed it just under the black bill with a blue sharpie. Signature rates an impressive 9/10. Most importantly, the cap’s Bicentennial style celebrated our nation’s 200th birthday, while also acknowledging the National League’s 100th birthday. The pill-box style with thin black stripes horizontally encircling the cap threw respect to the League’s 19th century past. The style was so popular, the Pirates continued to wear this “look” past 1976 – for 10 years! The black stitching in the “P” on the front of the cap is tight and ever secure. The most wear is found on the inner band, its whiteness browned with forehead sweat, stains and dirt. For a game used cap, it is in excellent condition. The size tag remains intact inside, and in very faint black marker the size “7 1/4" is largely written on the inside of the top of the cap. A wonderful memento for fan’s of this Pirates team leader.
