A wonderful closeup of infielder Buck Weaver, “The Ginger Kid”, taken just before the start of the 1917 World Series, won by the White Sox over the Giants in six games. His 9-season Major League career was sadly cut short in the aftermath of the 1919 “Black Sox” World Series. Weaver, who had eleven hits and a .324 average in the Series, was never accused of participating, only of knowing and not telling - but was nevertheless banned for life. His many supporters still actively argue for reinstatement. This fine photo measures 4” x 6” and has Culver Service stamps and sticker on the reverse, where it is also dated October 2, 1917. Condition is EX, with a narrow chip along the right edge.
