Artwork on the Horrors of War series was realistically gruesome. As is clear in this piece of original card art which was used to produce card number 282. You can almost hear the soldier powerfully guiding his horse in a stampede-like impact against the group of people. No wonder this second series of Horrors of War trading cards were so immensely popular. This original card measures 2 1/2 x 3”, the same size as the printed, finished cards. On the rear is an adhesive backing along with the artist’s pencil writing of the number “282.”
