Before M*A*S*H, there was World War II. Taking care of injuries is a huge part of military training as this scene depicts. Nurses, ambulance, medical professionals throughout, stretchers and cots for the injured...it’s all, unfortunately, a daily dose of the real world. This is one piece of original artwork from the Uncle Sam Trading Cards World War II military series produced and issued by GUM, Inc. of Philadelphia. All these military training maneuvers were part of the successful series of gum cards. This one is the original 7 1/2 x 9” (approx) artboard consisting of the black ink drawing as well as the color overlay that was used to print the Uncle Sam Card #131. The adhesive and other art and pencil markers used in the production of the card can be seen on the back and front. Note the pencil instructions to “put ambulance in doorway.”
