Ruth and Gehrig, Mantle and Maris, and Mays and McCovey are just a sampling of a pair of sluggers back to back in a killer lineup. The Japanese equivalent is Oh and Nagashima. While Oh is famous here because of his 868 homers, many in Japan feel that Nagashima was actually the better hitter. They hit back to back homers an almost absurd 106 times. The Oh-Nagashima Yomiuri Giants were unstoppable in their prime, winning an incredible record 9 straight Japan Series from 1965 to 1973. The fact that the team’s winning streak stopped when Nagashima retired may have helped play a role into the claim that he was better than Oh. Touches to the corners and slightly off center which is very common for these cards which notoriously come miscut. Card is #12 out of the 105 issued in the famous Kabaya-Leaf Japanese baseball card set of 1967. One of the finest examples known to exist. PSA 5.
