Simply amazing photograph of pitching immortal Grover Cleveland Alexander. One of the finest known photos of “Pete”, taken during his phenomenal early years with the Phillies (1911-1917) by early sports photographer Paul Thompson. A control pitcher with a great fastball and sharp curve, Alexander won 30 games for three straight years with the Phillies, including 16 shutouts in 1916, still a Major League record. Alexander was known for his graceful, effortless delivery, which is captured perfectly in this image, as he follows through, intently watching the just-released ball sail home. Just outstanding! Black and white, 6 1/2” x 8 1/2”; reverse has Paul Thompson studio stamp. Photo from Baseball Magazine Archives, with their authenticating hologram on reverse. Condition is NRMT with a miniscule corner chip the only defect .
