Unused, uncut ticket from the June 22, 1938 Louis-Schmeling fight brings back all the crackling excitement and international implications of the match. Fought at Yankee Stadium on the eve of WWII, the bout was used by Adolf Hitler to tout “Aryan Supremacy.” Louis went in with a personal grudge to settle as well, having lost to Schmeling two years before when the latter was heavyweight champ. Now, with Louis owning the belt, he would recall, “I knew I had to get Schmeling good. I had my own personal reasons and the whole damned country was depending on me.” Result: a pulverizing first round KO with “supreme” Aryans throwing in the towel. The $30 cardboard lower box seat ticket is a knockout, too, with raised gold bordering and letters reading “World’s Heavyweight Championship - Joe Louis vs. Max Schmeling” in the middle section, and “Yankee Stadium” on top in white against black. 2.75 x 7.25”, VG-EX w/the extreme edge of the lower left corner torn off, bend on upper right corner but o/w clean, bright and crisp edges.
