Smashing memento from an important baseball milestone, the 1949 All-Star Game that marked the first time African-American players were chosen to represent their teams. Appropriately, the game was played at Ebbets Field, where Jackie Robinson made history two years earlier. This ONL (Frick) ball bears the signatures of 22 members of the AL squad that prevailed 11-7 behind the firepower of Joe DiMaggio’s two hits and 3 RBIs and also featured the historic presence of the Indians’ Larry Doby, the 1st black man to play in the league. Both of these great HOFers are on the ball, with Joe D. on the SS with yet another HOFer, manager Lou Bourdeau, who’d chosen Joe for the team even though he’d been hurt most of the season. Doby stands out in regular blue ink, with most others are in blue-green or black, including HOFers Yogi (as “Larry”) Berra, Bob Lemon & George Kell, as well as Joost, Hegan, Weisman, Dom DiMaggio, Trucks, Parnell, Henrich, Susce, Mitchell, Stephens, etc. Signatures average 6-7/10, w/Joe D and Doby on high end. Ball has been graded PSA 7.5 (NM+).
