Oh boy! This rare 1959 Fujiya Caramel Bromide Premium Card marks Sadaharu Oh’s rookie season with the Yomiyuri Giants, the start of something big – a 21-year career with a world-record 868 homers. Japanese bromide cards used a printing process that allowed for extremely crisp and clear color images of the players. The ’59 series that spawned Oh’s rookie card being uniquely large at 4” x 7.25” -- even larger than the bromide Lamp and Phonograph cards – produced an even greater dramatic image, with Oh looking intense in his batting stance, hands gripping a huge bat. A facsimile signature stretches upward across his uniform. Only posing him with his front leg raised like a flamingo would’ve been better. Card is VG-EX w/a touch of wrinkling on the upper edge and crease near the right upper corner. Only the back has surface loss, along the upper edge.
