Ernie Davis was one of the great college football players ever but his professional career never even got started. He died of leukemia in May of 1963. He followed Jim Brown at Syracuse and preceded Floyd Little and Larry Csonka there. Jim Brown helped break down the racial barriers at Syracuse and Davis helped break them on a national scale in 1961, becoming the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy in, at the time, the closest vote ever. This 20” X 15” poster has a photo of the Syracuse Orangemen affixed to it. Underneath are the signatures of the players, including Davis. On the reverse side is a Christmas greeting from a Bob Winter. There is a slight stain near the bottom of the photo and the poster is in VG condition.
