A double bang: an early 1900s mounted team photo of the Cincinnati Reds (wearing uniform shirts that read “North Side”) and one of the very few photos that exists from the Palace of the Fans -- the most opulent ballpark of turn-of-the-century days and a precursor of today’s luxury stadium amenities. To some historians, it was the greatest ballpark ever created. When League Park burned in 1900, it was rebuilt around the surviving grandstand, under which were built horse carriage stalls so that the wealthy could simply drive directly to the game. The stately concrete columns may have blocked most fans’ views but the tea set had their own luxury boxes. The team posed in front of the dugout, with columns above and spreading behind them down the left field line. 8 x 9.5” photo is NRMT while black-matted mount is VG with a few rips along the edges. 10 x 12.5” o/a.
