Handwritten letter by Arhur Ashe is undated but the accompanying envelope is postmarked September 3, 1975 -- only weeks after he'd won at Wiblemdon and attained #1 ranking in the world. Sent to N.Y. Post columnist Leonard Lyons' wife Sylvia, relating his future plans to "buy more art [and] get more involved in South Africa." Ashe, of course, had led a tennis boycott of that country for its apartheid policy. His 1993 death from AIDS was one of the sports' great tragedies.
