The finest original, vintage photograph we have ever seen of the famed called shot where Babe Ruth supposedly pointed to the stands and “called” his home run for the on looking throngs of Chicago fans in Game 3 of the 1932 World Series at Wrigley Field. In this stunning image of October 1, 1932, the Babe is crossing home plate as he is being congratulated by teammates Lou Gehrig and Joe Sewell. Interesting to note that in later years Sewell was the impetus to the controversy, and legend, saying Ruth did in fact call it. Lost in the sauce perhaps is that perpetually overshadowed Lou Gehrig also hit two home runs that very day. Affixed to the verso is the full sized article from the Chicago Herald-Examiner, stamped “Herald & Examiner Oct 2 1932” as it was after the called shot that this was published. This original newspaper article takes up nearly the entire verso of this approximately 8.25x9.75” image. Photo itself is a magnificent silver gelatin print on a serious heavy stock that just continues to add to this image’s importance. It is ironic that this purely Yankee moment came from the archives of the major Chicago newspaper of the day. Obtained from a former Chicago area sportswriter. EX-MT.
