Original poster for "Pour L'Empereur!" a satirical early 20th Century play poking fun at the general and leader of France until he met his Waterloo. The milieu has him in the upper right corner, braced against a rock in a brooding thinker's pose while 2 fops, one with a sword drawn, gaze at him in shock. To their left, an armed guard stands stiffly with his bayoneted rifle pressed to his side, and above an eagle soars. The colorful and amusing artwork, which also includes a quote from Victor Hugo, was done by Louis Salice for the play staged at the Prochaimenent Theatre in Paris. Poster is a full 56 1/2 x 76" on light paper backed on linen. Condition is VG-EX.
