For European stage and early screen buffs, this collection is a revelation. Autographs of famous and mostly British actresses painstakingly gathered via letters, publicity stills, note cards and other means will mesmerize. French actress extraordinaire Sarah Bernhardt, who once played Hamlet, signed an 1871-dated note (EX+), apologizing for missing an appointment. Stage and screen giantess Edith Evans, who was nominated for three Academy Awards, signed stationery "Faithfully Edith Evans" (9/10) in replying that she would be able to attend a party. And Flora Robson signed (9.5/10) a Sept. 21, 1936 typewritten missive (EX+) to a playwright that he should send his material elsewhere because she was going into the movies. Good move. Robson had a long career, ending the American side of her resume by playing a witch in 1981's "Clash of the Titans." Fifteen signatures averaging 8.5/10, 15 ladies who lit up stage and screen.
