So you think championships, game-winning jump shots, and gazillions of dollars from commercials are the only things that make Michael get sentimental? Not so, according to this incredible love poem (circa 1981) in which His Airness turned himself into Ralph Waldo Jordan, pouring out his heart apparently to a girl, though some inscrutable lines of the poem make one wonder just who or what he was in love with. Titled "Only You", it reads: "Only you can brighten my day, Only you can show me the way. Only you can exept [sic] my love, You and the great man above. Only you can kiss my cheeks, When I with you I never fear defeat. I hope you grow very, very tall, Because right now you haven't grown at all. My face shows happiness and blue, Because I will love only you." He signed a diagonal "Michael Jeffrey Jordan" -- the only time we've ever seen a Jordan signature using his full name, and rating 9/10, to boot. While we wonder why a girl (or whoever) growing tall would be so important to him, the "I never fear defeat"part is pure Michael Jordan. Poem is on an 8 x 10 sheet of lined looseleaf paper that is NRMT with 1 horizontal and 3 vertical fold marks that are barely visible, o/w pristine. Michael, you old softie.
