Unsigned $300 a month contract for Herbert Simpson of the New Orleans Creoles. Note in the first paragraph of this vintage document that the Creoles existed under Tennessee corporate laws. There were absentee owners even then. The heavy typeface of an old manual typewriter is clear on this creased and aged legal-length paper, which is stained on the front. The Creoles would make a name for themselves a few seasons later when they played a woman, Toni Stone, at second base. Stone then succeeded Henry Aaron at second base when he left the Indianapolis Clowns for the Braves.
