Rousingly historic and outrageously good-condition Cap Anson brand beer bottle dates back to the turn of the 20th Century after Anson had left the game he'd dominated for 3 decades. The bottle is rare enough on its face, its gorgeous mocha brown and black-flecked surface stamped "Capt. A.C. Anson", "Anson & Birrell, Chicago" and "GB Trade Mark". Anson's history makes it rarer, since he usually resisted trying to cash in on his baseball fame as a player and manager with the Chicago White Stockings. He had, however, been involved with the Birrell brewing company during and after his career, and so made an exception with this joint venture. Unfortunately, it didn't prevent him from going bust in the early 1900s, and when the NL tried to get together a pension for him he stood on pride and refused to take it. Bottle stands 8" high and is virtually flawless save for a chip on the lip. Otherwise EX-MT. Fantastic baseball collectible.
