Never before seen image of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Boston Pilgrims before the start of the first ever WS game in Boston's Huntington Avenue Grounds on October 1, 1903. Unlike the regimented team photos of the era, the players appear to be more unposed and unorganized, and because there are more Pilgrims than Pirates it seems as if it may have been an impromptu snapshot. Faces in the crowd include Honus Wagner standing with hand on hip 2nd from right, Cy Young in the back center, and Boston manager Jimmy Collins. In the background is a full grandstand of bowler-wearing fans. As historic a photo as we've ever handled and EX with scrapbook damage only on back.
