Lot of (22) fascinating Negro League documents dating from 1944 was discovered by Detroit Tigers officials before the demolition of Tiger Stadium. Includes a list of attendance figures and gate receipts from Negro League games played at Briggs Stadium in Detroit, a letter referring to an exhibition by track superstar Jesse Owens that drew fans prior to a game in Chicago and telegrams from Alexander Pompez, a Harlem mob figure and Negro League franchise owner. Documents pertain to proposals for placing a Negro League team in Detroit, net income from various Negro League games and behind the scenes negotiations about a new team joining the Negro American or Negro National League. These rare original documents date from the the heyday of Negro League baseball just three years before Jackie Robinson made his Major League debut. EX-MT to NRMT.
