This fabulous Yankee road flannel uniform has a unique history. Originally it was worn by pitcher Atley Donald in the early and mid-'40s and in '43 it contained a WWII patch on the sleeve. After Donald departed it was given to pitcher Tommy Byrne when he returned from the service in '46, by which time the patch had been removed. Thus, the collar of the shirt has a label chain-stitched "Donald" under the "Wilson [size] 46" tags and the pants a similar "A. Donald" tag beside the "Wilson [size] 40" tags. Shirt has "New York" across the chest and "28" across the back in blue felt. Byrne gave the uniform to a family member after the '46 season. Both shirt and pants show very strong game use, especially around the collar and the buttons. Interesting and compelling uniform.
