Tough as last week's steak is this brown and white leather football helmet worn by Hall of Fame end Wayne Millner of the Washington Redskins. The last of the 2-way ends, Willner was a Notre Dame alumnus who when he joined the then-Boston Redskins in '36, his coach was so excited he promised to resign if "we don't win the championship with that big Yankee." The 'Skins did win, that year and after moving to Washington in '37 two more divisional titles and another NFL crown. Millner and Sammy Baugh were a deadly pass-and-catch combination. In the '37 title game against the Bears, Baugh threw scoring strikes of 55 and 78 yards to Millner, then used him as a decoy when he threw the game-winning pass to Ed Justice. Miller had 9 catches for 179 yards. He played with the Redskins from 1936-41 and 1945, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1968. He also coached the Philadelphia Eagles in '51. The chin strap is still in tact and the Nokona logo is inside the helmet, from which gridiron history spills like buttermilk.
