Two striking and exceptionally rare vintage baseball prints from the most famous commerical print maker of the 19th Century: Currier & Ives. These handcolored prints of exceptional quality depict 19th Century baseball and the negative Black stereotypes of the time they were produced. Both of these original prints are dated 1882 and measure approximately 11" x 14". The first is called "A Foul Tip" and features four baseball players arguing and threatening the umpire who is standing on top of a barrel. Many fights appear ready to break out among players in the background. The second print is called "A Base Hit" and shows fielders arguing over who will get a hit ball while the baserunner snakes around the bases. These two colorful prints are both beautifully presented in handsome dark wood frames. There is some foxing and edge wear in the form of small tears but overall these beautifully framed prints are of exceptional quality, rating VG and VG-EX. Absolutely original and endemic to the period, and it's worth noting that we have not seen "A Foul Tip" before. As Currier & Ives' baseball print of Elysian Fields seels for tens of thousands of dollars, we can only imagine the value of an original C&I like this one.
