Eight years before he would author one of the most remembered “streaks” in baseball history, Joe D. performed the same feat in the PCL as a San Francisco Seal. Original Associated Press negative (4x5”) shows DiMaggio crossing homeplate in his breakout season - he had just equalled the PCL all time record for hits in consecutive games - a hint of his future greatness on July 13, 1933 when he ran the string to 49. Original envelope with the negative is marked “Coast Train NUY Neg” as this was taken on the West coast, then put on a train to New York where it was printed in the New York papers. It is a great testament to the grandeur of the story that a New York paper would print it along with the photo from the PCL.
