Nine months to the day after he died of tuberculosis on October 7, 1925 at the age of 45, Matty was posthumously honored at the Polo Grounds by the Giants, whom he'd spearheaded for year with his rubber arm. This golden brown ticket from the sad day is sparsely worded "Stadium $1.00, Mathewson Memorial, Wed. July 7, 1926." The stub bears the stamped signature of team owner Charles Stoneham. MT.
