A great sentimental piece from Stanford’s only Heisman trophy winner. Jim Plunkett wore this Riddell suspension helmet during the College All Star game, just before he would go on to become the NFL’s #1 draft pick. Although Plunkett was eligible to graduate the previous June, he had made a vow before the 1970 season with other veteran players to stay at Stanford one more year with goal in mind to beat USC and go on to the Rose Bowl. Plunkett’s heroics in that all-important game, 275 yards passing, including a 50-yard TD reception to tight end Bob Moore, were good enough to beat the Trojans 24-14. The helmet shows great use and wear, although the suspension padding and chinstrap are still perfectly intact. Best is the black sharpie inscription and signature next to his decaled “16” on the left side: “To Joel, Best Wishes, Jim Plunkett - 1971 College All-Stars.” Size 7 1/8 (printed on inside strap) with Ridell guarantee tag still attached inside left earhole.
