Offered is one of the most important and insightful letters extant from Malcolm X, the Nation of Islam’s most eloquent spokesman. Addressed to Elijah Muhammad - one of the Nation of Islam’s most powerful leaders - the content and circumstance of this typed, signed letter is invaluable. Read in fascination as one of the most renowned Civil Rights speakers in history reveals his reasons for marrying. Letter reads in part: “Honorable Elijah Muhammad…The Muslims here are happy! The spirit here is high! The Muslims here are handling 5000 Couriers here this week…and this too will [help] them in the eyes of the public here and eliminate many of the ‘false impressions’ created by the rebels and [hypocrites]…ALLAH willing I shall go to Angola, Indiana tomorrow and get married. I hear it can be done there in one day, and I don’t have too much time than that to spare…I’m sending the Sister on back to New York before Sunday or after Sunday to get her affairs there finished up. It is my greatest desire that you take her there at #2 as planned where you can train her to help…My main reason for deciding to marry is that I saw where at last I was getting in danger because there were too many Sisters who would do ANYTHING to trap me…and since I’m human, I decided the risk was getting [too] great to leave to ‘chance’. So I pray ALLAH I’m making the right move, and that I’ll prove as worthy married to serve the nation as I have strived to do while yet single…Malcolm X.” Letter typed on 8.5x11” paper. Signed in blue ballpoint. Signature grades a strong “8” out of a possible 10. EX-MT condition.
