A fabulous set of forgotten vintage Raymond Berry equipment from his college days at Southern Methodist University. At the time of his college graduation, you can be sure that no one particularly coveted these keepsakes: 1. Game used black cleats. Even though he never started a game in college, great use went into these future Hall of Famer’s MacGregor high tops. Made of supple, thin black leather, the left shoe is inscribed in silver sharpie, “SMU Game Used” and signed, “Raymond Berry.” 2. SMU white #87 presentational retired jersey. As a tribute to his accomplishments in the NFL, SMU honored their own Ray Berry by retiring his number worn in college. 3. Two wool blankets, each measuring 76x56”, and each with a large “M” sewn in the middle and "Raymond Berry" embroidered in blue thread on the lower right corner. 4. Berry's college jacket made of leather and wool. "M" patch sewn onto left breast. "CB Co." tag in the collar and "Raymond Berry" printed on tag below. 5. Game worn stirrup socks. Although Berry retired as the NFL’s all-time leading pass receiver with 631 for 9,725 yards and 68TD’s, he was virtually unknown throughout his college career. After playing 1 year at a junior college, Berry transferred to SMU but did not start a game during his entire college career. To his amazement, Ray Berry was a 20th round draft choice for the Colts in 1955. And the rest, as they say, is history.
