The broadcast and cable industry’s most prestigious prize, the George Foster Peabody award is a 6.5” tall trophy, a black cylinder with 1/3” thick golden coin sitting on top which boasts the raised bust of George Foster Peabody, the philanthropist for whom the award is named. He is surrounded by engraved lettering, which reads, “The University of Georgia, George Foster Peabody.” Design on verso is Roman columns surrounded by the words, “Awarded by the University of Georgia - Et Docere et Rervm Exqvirere Cavsas.” In Mint condition, this was presented for NBC’s “The West Wing” in its debut season at the 59th annual 1999 George Foster Peabody awards ceremony. Affixed plate on front reads, “1999 Peabody Award ‘The West Wing’ NBC, John Wells Productions in Assoc. with Warner Bros. Television, College of Journalism & Mass Communication, The University of Georgia.”
